- Moldmaking for reproduction parts
Since we have thousands of molds already made, we may already have made molds for the parts you seek. If we do not have a mold made for your particular part, we can make a mold providing you can send us a good original. There will be a charge for making molds.
Minor scratches can be buffed out, but we cannot accept parts that are damaged, gouged, broken, or warped. Basically the parts will come out just like the original, so if they are not in excellent shape, then it does not pay to have it reproduced. As a last resort, if you do not have a good original, use your own resources to find collectors who will let you borrow one so you can send it to us. The internet has become a wonderful place to network with other collectors. If you want to send us a part that is badly damaged for identification purposes please do. We will look through our molds and attempt to find a mold that was made previously from an excellent original of the part you need. This happens frequently and has delighted many collectors.
Making molds from originals will not harm the original. Our molding material uses no heat when curing. We take great care when molding originals, however, we cannot be responsible for extremely fragile parts.
All molds become the property of Old Time Replications and there will be no molding charge for molds that already exist.
Many collectors ask if we can reproduce escutcheons. The only ones we reproduce are for Philco radios and are only made in plastic. Please look under our part listing heading for specific Philco escutcheons. We only make Philco escutcheons. Since these radios are so common, it is economically feasible to invest in molds for them. As far as any other manufacturer, it is simply not economically feasible to produce them. The only thing we can suggest is to find an original through the internet. See our link page for this.
- Wood simulated knobs
Many of the knobs requested are for wood knobs. There are some people who make real wood knobs but only a limited amount of styles are available. We make simulated wood knobs. We make them out of plastic to look like wood. They are made out of a brown plastic, and then wiped with a black mixture to fill the grain. The result is an aged wood look. Collectors have been very happy with this effect. But keep in mind, wood simulated knobs should be ordered in sets so as keep colors consistent. It is not advisable to mix wood simulated knobs with original knobs. When compared side by side, they will not match. Only in the case where the original wood knobs are dark can wood simulated knobs match in well.
- Locating original parts
On some occasions, we can locate original parts for you. In some cases, we recommend originals because we simply cannot match a certain bakelite or marbleized look. Especially if one part is matching into an original set. Prices are quoted on a individual basis.
- Color matching
Color matching can be done, but only on an individual basis. It is extremely time consuming, expensive, and most of the time, is not cost effective to have done. .It is highly recommended to order a complete set in order to keep colors consistent. We are not attempting to sell more knobs, it is simply much more economical and quicker to order a full set.
- Knob fastening
Included in the reproduction of our knobs is our service of finishing the knob with a spring steel fastener or set screw. We like to keep our reproductions faithful to the original for both aesthetic and practical reasons.
- Referrals
If we cannot provide a service for your needs and we know someone who can, we will refer you to that company.
